My Story
Hi and welcome! I’m glad you are here to read my story.
I’m a person with a past—writer and journalist, fitness freak and teacher, and mom. I love my family. I love books and movies, and I love music. And, Oh, I love to dance. I write novels—both contemporary and romance, and short stories. Some of them are pirate stories. I used to ski, but I abandoned downhill in favor of teaching fitness and dance classes. (It had nothing to do with the fact that everyone ran into me as I snowplowed across their paths!) I also like tennis, hiking, and golf and taking long walks in the sun—isn’t that the same thing?
I love to learn. As an adult with three young children, I went back to school, parttime, for 13 years and graduated with a B.A. in English. I loved every minute of it
If there’s a social gathering, I’m there. Family time? Most important. My friendships matter, and I like sharing my stories. Thanks for listening, and stay tuned. It’s only the beginning
Growing up
I was a dreamy child, often lost in daydreams. I read books, lots of books. I discovered “Mary Poppins" and the dog stories of Albert Payson Terhune. I also loved movies. As an elementary school student, living in Denver, I spent many Saturdays going to movie musicals at the local theater. I fell in love with Doris Day and Fred Astaire (Who wouldn’t?). In school, in Boulder, Colorado, I sang in the choir and was a twirler in the marching band. I love music, but books have always been my most cherished companion. I learned about life and love, right and wrong, and all the complexities of my world.
Career
At the age of 30, I went back to school in Corvallis, Oregon, transferring six hours from University of Colorado to Oregon State University. For 13 years I attended classes, while I raised my three children. I loved almost every minute of it. I wrote book reviews for the public library and edited The Benton County Newsletter (now "Lumina").
Before graduating with a BA in English and Writing, I began to teach aerobic dance classes. and soon earned my Personal Trainer Certification. At one time or another I taught every type of class at our fitness club, except Yoga. I also wrote a fitness column in the Corvallis Gazette-Times.
Future Endeavors
By the time I retired, I had written several novels and am now working on a third. I have time now to devote to my family and to my writing, and I’m truly enjoying both.
I have just completed an 11-book series of exciting pirate stories with my daughter, Kristi, for 6-12 year olds, “The Adventures of Captain Scalleywag."
JUST RELEASED! “Bodee and The Pirates,” a prize-winning book in the annual, international Writer’s Digest competition.

The Bridge and Other Stories
Each story tells of a life-changing moment on a bridge. These are moments that can lead one to follow one’s heart and choose life and love — or choose, instead, to turn back and never complete the crossing. Which choice will each make? Read my blog about this book.

Reviews from Writers' Digest
“I did like the ongoing theme of the bridge, and how it wasn’t obvious or explicit but handled as a different metaphor in each story. The way the characters all seek connection was very movingly handled."
"All three stories held some surprise—while the premise of each wasn’t unique, they all went in unexpected directions; bravo!”
“The stories are well written and lead to surprising but satisfying endings. The themes and imagery are strengthened through their repetition but are unique in each story. The writing is very good — confident and evocative.”
Bodee & The Pirates
"Imagine that you have a very special collection of tin soldiers given to you by your grandfather before he died. Imagine how much you would protect those figures as a way of remembering your special time with a grandfather whom you loved very much. Read my blog about this book.
